Plans are underway to present one of best festivals since its beginnings in 1986, highlighting some of the most accomplished theatre companies from Latin America, Europe and the United States. This year, the IHTF will honor the Latino Theatre in the U.S., adding to past tributes in 2008 (Spain), 2009 (Colombia), 2010 (México), and 2011 (Chile). The IHTF will once again be held at the Adrienne Arsht Center, Prometeo Theatre at Miami Dade College-Wolfson Campus, and Key Biscayne Community Center, July 12-29, 2012.

The IHTF Educational Program will include post-performance forums, workshops, a conference, theatre directors’ round table, staged readings, the International Children’s Day, photography exhibit and book presentation.

Conference Objectives:
To promote the dialogue with and within all the Americas, with the different ethnic and cultural groups that comprised our community, and to reflect on our different communities’ prevailing issues and interests as viewed in the performing arts.

Book Presentation

If you are interested in participating in the conference and/or the book presentation, please contact us no later than March 30, 2012. For the conference, a one-page abstract must be sent to Beatriz J. Rizk (BJRizk@aol.com). Please include name, title, affiliation, address, telephone number and e-mail address. The paper should not exceed 20 minutes (ten pages maximum). For the book presentation, the proposed book should have been published during the last three years on the subject of Latino and/or Latin American Theatre. The languages of the conference are English and Spanish. All Educational Component events are free and open to the public. We are negotiating discounted room rates in downtown hotels near the Festival and conference venues.

The award-winning International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami presents some of the best theatre groups in Latin America, Europe and the United States. Conference participants will be invited to see the productions showcased during the July 12-15 weekend.

Estamos planeando uno de los mejores festivales desde su comienzo en 1986, cuando presentaremos algunas de las compañías más destacadas de América Latina, Europa y Estados Unidos. El XXVII Festival Internacional de Teatro Hispano (FITH) de Miami le ofrecerá un homenaje al teatro latino en Estados Unidos, como se hizo con España en 2008, Colombia en 2009, México en 2010 y Chile en 2011. El festival, una vez más, tendrá lugar en el Adrienne Arsht Center, Teatro Prometeo-Miami Dade College, Recinto Wolfson y Key Biscayne Community Center, del 12 al 29 de julio de 2012.

El Programa Educativo del FITH incluirá foros inmediatamente después de las funciones, conferencia, mesa redonda de directores de teatro, el Día Internacional del Niño, exposición de fotografía, lecturas dramatizadas, y presentación de libros.

Objetivos de la Conferencia:
Promover el diálogo con, y desde dentro de las Américas, con los diferentes grupos étnicos y culturales que componen nuestra comunidad, además de reflexionar sobre temas e intereses importantes para las artes escénicas en nuestras comunidades, tal como se reflejan en las artes escénicas.

El estado del teatro latino en Estados Unidos
Teatro como foro para la experiencia latina
El artista/escritor como historiador: re-escribiendo la historia
Patriarcalismo y tradición en las artes escénicas
La dialéctica de la diferencia y los principios poéticos de las respuestas
La dinámica de la interacción de grupos
Los cambios paradigmáticos en el teatro y el performance
El discurso post-colonial en el teatro latino y latinoamericano
El arte performativo y la multi-disciplinaridad: Una perspectiva
Marginalidad dentro del margen: Los discursos gay y lesbianos

Presentación de Libros

Las personas interesadas en participar, ya sea en la conferencia o en la presentación de libros, deberán comunicarlo antes del 30 de marzo de 2012. Para la conferencia deben enviar un resumen de una página a Beatriz J. Rizk (BJRizk@aol.com). Por favor, incluya nombre, título, afiliación, dirección, e-mail y teléfono. La ponencia no debe exceder más de 20 minutos (10 páginas máximo). Los idiomas de la conferencia son el español y el inglés. Para la presentación de textos, el libro deberá haber sido publicado durante los últimos tres años y su tema debe ser sobre el teatro latino en Estados Unidos y/o el teatro latinoamericano. Todos los eventos del Componente Educativo son gratis y abiertos al público. Estamos negociando tarifas con descuentos para los participantes en hoteles localizados en el centro de Miami.
